July 19, Glacier National Park, East side
Today, after a merciless night, we awoke to a torn sky and a smoky, hazy atmosphere all around us. We took the Shuttle Bus and toured the east side of the park, stopping at Rising Sun, Sunrift Gorge, St. Mary Falls, Gunsight Pass Trailhead, Siyeh Bend, and Logan Pass, where we walked a bit, but were severely buffeted about by wind gusts up to 60 mph. Eventually we took the shuttle back to St. Mary, by which time we were exhausted and decided to nap before going on to our next spot, Many Glacier, an entrance above St. Mary and featuring another gorgeous timber lodge which we toured with a park ranger. On the way back to the campground, we stopped at Two Sisters restaurant and had a meal of bok choy, three different types of mushrooms, polenta and a fine light gravy that complimented it all. In better fettle, and with the wind having settled, we enjoyed a much better, more restful night.
