fraschini14: Allow me to introduce myself as Sylvia Venable, or "Dr. V.," as I am known at school. I have been the resident German instructor at St. John's Episcopal School here in Dallas since 1988. A little about myself: I was born in Germany, and my father was an American; my mother, a German. Most of my youth was spent in Germany and England, and I grew up bilingually. Eventually, my family settled in Tennessee. I attended Lambuth University there, where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in French language and literature. After finishing that degree, I went on to pursue my doctorate in German language and literature from Rice University, Houston, Texas. My blogs during this summer, 2019, will include the following venues: San Francisco, Los Angeles, California; Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania; Paris, France; Boston and Ipswich, Massachusetts; Lake Squam, New Hampshire; and St. Petersburg and St. Augustine, Florida.
