July 21: arrival in Seattle, WA

Sylvia Venable finally beaming in to all of you, catching you up on two exciting days of adventure, this time in the Pacific Northwest.  On July 21, I was able to leave for the airport a little later than usual, as my flight was not until 10:40 a.m.  I departed at 8:00 from Hart's house with the Super Shuttle, and therefore she was able to see me off this time as I boarded the Super Shuttle.  Rode to the airport with one lady who was off to St. Louis, and another who was flying to Tokyo's Narita Airport non-stop from Dallas.  After a cup of coffee and a beginning reading of my newest "National Geographic Traveler" (always a pleasure), we were informed of both a gate and terminal change, so I took the Skylink to Terminal D (always my favorite terminal at DFW, as it is the newest, most cleverly designed one and accommodates all transatlantic and a few transpacific flights).  The flight to Tucson left a bit late, but a rather long layover in that city before the next Alaska Airlines flight to Seattle allowed me plenty of time to read and enjoy lunch.  Of course, going through security in Tucson, as I changed from one terminal to another, I was once again stopped, but questioned only briefly.  Flight to Seattle was uneventful, and as I had a window seat, I was able to view the ever-changing landscape, especially and dramatically enhanced by the appearance of Mt. Rainier when we were about 30 minutes from landing in Seattle.
Alexandra was able to pick me up very shortly after I had collected my bag, and we were off to the Ballard section of the city, where she and Bo, her boyfriend and housemate, reside.  Both are looking fit as fiddles, and I was able to meet their pets, Major Tom and Mouse, the cats, and Hattie, a dog the combination of an Australian Heeler and German Shepherd--very rambunctious, very keen to chew shoes and jump on people, but thoroughly delightful nevertheless.  Bo and Alexandra gave me a short tour of their house and then began to put together pizzas for dinner--both handmade, with wonderfully diverse ingredients such as goat cheese, spinach, and plum slices, Bo's homemade marinara sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, etc.  Alexandra was my roommate for the night, so after watching a funny travelogue show, conversing, and cleaning up the kitchen together, I called it a night, took a bath and then retired, to be joined later by my roommate Alexandra.  Off to Oregon on Wednesday!  More soon!
