Prague: June 28
This morning we were off to the main train station in Dresden for an 8:08 a.m. departure. As it was raining, it was doubly good to take a taxi. We had a roll and coffee before boarding, then made it to Prague in a little more than two hours. In Prague we took another taxi and made it to Dempsey's at around 10:30. She was taking a shower, and after she had finished in the bathroom, she came out and seemed surprised and happy to see us. We unpacked and got all our dirty clothes ready to be washed. Afterwards, we were off to get some lunch at Indian Jewel, where Dempsey had lamb with sauce over rice (Rogan Josh) Alexandra had mixed veggies korma (Mixed Subzi) and I had an excellent basmati rice with vegetables beautifully seasoned (Subzi Biryani). We ate outside, and then we left Dempsey to go to the Postal Museum, and then to the National Gallery and the 20 gigantic-format "Slav Epic Cycle" paintings by Alfons Mucha, which have now finally been moved from Moravsky Krumlov, where Dempsey and I had last seen them on display, to the climate-controlled, beautiful but simply elegant galleries of the National Gallery. Afterwards, we went down the street for cold drinks, and I read Alexandra all about the historical events depicted in the 20 paintings. From there we took the tram back to the Cafe Slavia, and we returned to find all our clothes washed by Dempsey. Tonight, we are going to have dinner at home, do a slide show for Dempsey concerning our Dresden / Meissen experience, and watch "Charades." If public fireworks are presented when it gets dark, we will definitely be out to see them. Mellow evening, and time to vedge a bit.
