California trip, June 28

This morning, Maureen and I got a relatively early start, as I had a flight at 10:41 with United Airlines. Checking the website, I saw that my flight was taking off from the International Terminal, which seemed strange. However, dutifully but skeptically, Maureen dropped me at International, then said she would circle a few times pending any snafus. I got in the terminal, but it seemed totally internationally geared. An official in line told me that mine was not an international venue--duh--but I showed him my ticket and he quickly drew me out of the long line and sent me to a shorter one, so things went fast from there. I arrived at Gate 100, the designated gate, to find, a few minutes later, that my gate had been changed and I was in a different terminal, about half a mile away. I just arrived on time as they started boarding. That could have been a snafu, but luckily I made the transition without incident. It was a non-stop flight, and Maureen had packed me some crackers, cheese, plums, carrots, cucumbers, and grapes, so I simply asked for a Ginger Ale and was able to put together a very satisfying lunch. The flight was over 3 hours long, and we landed at about 4:20 Dallas time to 105-degree heat. True to form! Thank God Rita was on time, and she took me home to an air conditioned apartment which Madeleine had arranged (thanks, Madeleine, for taking care of my apartment, plants, and car while I was gone!). The second leg of my travels has come to an end, and I am anticipating the third segment, starting next Sunday, July 7, when I leave for Israel, Jordan, and the UK. Therefore, there will be a temporary hiatus from these blogs until July 8, when my first entry for that trip will begin. Till then and as ever, Sylvia
