California trip, June 25

A day of errands today. Slept later than usual, and while Maureen was making important phone calls relating to her imminent move-out, I was readying a package of teas and coffees that Maureen had given me or which I had acquired at various places along our road so far, as well as some CDs which Maureen had given me. Also, the battery to my good Skagen watch had given up the ghost, so I needed a new battery, and Maureen knew just where to go to get that taken care of. After a few of her phone calls, she stopped to make biscuits for breakfast, which were scrumptious with strawberry rhubarb marmalade, along with apricots and grapes, and some wonderful coffee. Maureen worked through the morning, and I continued to read one of my new Bill Byson books online: "In a Sunburned Country" about Bryson's trip to Australia. Of course he is so refreshingly honest, yet gently sarcastic in his assessment of his travels to the land "down under." Lunchtime came around, and we watched a program on TV about Indian "Dabbawallas"--"Box Persons,"the men who make deliveries of tiffin boxes to workers in the city. They are chiefly located in Mumbai, but can also be found in other large Indian cities. While watching, we ate a wonderful lunch Maureen had put together--homemade egg salad, lettuce, tomatoes, flatbread, dill pickles, and cherries for dessert. Following that meal, we were off to run various errands, which we completed in about an hour. Back at Maureen's, we packed a few more boxes to take with us to her new condo tomorrow, and then loaded them into her car with the habitual and back saving dolly. Just finished that and dinner--ratatouille and barbecued pulled pork, as well as watermelon. Right now, both Maureen and I are online, and our plans tomorrow call for a visit to San Francisco's Asian Art Museum and an evening performance of "Cosi fan tutte" by Mozart. Looking forward to that a great deal. More tomorrow!
